The month of May has been designated National Foster Care Month, shining the spotlight on foster kids and their caregivers, as well as those who work and volunteer with foster children. “Each day in Colorado, approximately 12 children and teens enter foster care. There are currently 4,621 children and teens in an out-of-home placement such as a foster family, group home or residential treatment center,” according to a blog post from the Colorado Department of Human Services. The state needs more foster parents – if you’re thinking about becoming a foster parent, you can find information on the department’s CO4Kids website.
With so much going on in their lives, foster children often need extra support at school. The Colorado Department of Education’s Foster Care Education website provides helpful information on helping foster children succeed in school.
