The Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection (CHNC) lives up to its slogan “Experience Colorado as It Happened” by providing free access to more than 2.7 million digitized pages, representing more than 635 individual newspaper titles published in Colorado from 1859 up through 2022. In 2022, the Colorado State Library’s Library Research Service and Networking and Resource Sharing departments partnered to create the first fast facts infographic for CHNC. This infographic charts CHNC’s growth from 2016 to 2022 and highlights some standout figures from 2022, when hundreds of thousands of pages were added to the site. Users from all fifty states visited CHNC in 2022. Explore the interactive graphic to see how many newspapers have been archived in your favorite Colorado county.
Local cultural heritage organizations such as libraries, archives, museums, friends groups or associations that may have content to add to CHNC can learn more about the CHNC New Content Support Program for newspaper digitization and find the application for 2023 here. Support for maintaining, developing, and providing access to CHNC is paid for with state and federal funds administered by the Colorado State Library.
