Have you ever wondered how to pronounce Buena Vista, or Saguache? Iliff or Nathrop? Del Norte or Uncompahgre? Look no further! We have just added a pronunciation guide to our collection here at the State Publications Library. The guide was created by the University of Colorado’s School of Journalism some time in the 60’s. It has phonetic spellings for Colorado counties, cities and towns, mountain peaks, lakes and passes. Although some of the place names may have changed in recent days, most of the entries still apply to Colorado as we know it.
Being a transplant from Michigan, it definitely cleared up some pronunciation mysteries for me! Check out the copy in our digital repository.
